WOMEN24 – A Series of Talks supported by The National Lottery Communities Fund

This exciting and stimulating series of online talks are led by and tailored to local women and girls. The talks delve into critical issues impacting women in our region, such as the cost of living, access to education, healthcare, and employment opportunities.

Women of the One Voice Collective have been instrumental in the design and impact of the series – a number of women have been guest speakers, using this platform to share their life stories with a view to inspiring other women to join the conversation and explore ways to make change in their lives.

Participation in these events has brought about several noticeable outcomes and benefits:

Community Engagement and Empowerment: The events provide a platform for women and girls to actively participate in shaping the discussion around key issues that affect them. It empowers them to voice their concerns and contribute to the development of solutions.

Awareness and Understanding: By discussing themes such as work/opportunity, living with trauma, overcoming addiction, women and disability, and living with long-term health conditions, participants can gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by women in Calderdale. This increased awareness can foster empathy and support within the community.

Policy Influence and Advocacy: Involving key note guests and local leaders in these discussions allows for a direct exchange of ideas between the community and decision-makers. This engagement can lead to a better understanding of how policies are shaped and implemented, and participants can advocate for changes that align with their needs.

So far guest speakers have included: Rabia Zaka – Volunteer Co-ordinator, St Augustine’s Centre; Samea Mahboob – Support Coordinator in the mental health care sector, Radio Presenter on Radio Sangham; Cath Senior – Family Support Worker, Emerging Futures; Dr Sarah Dauncey – Head of Partnerships and Practice, Timewise; Rachel Orton – Communities Programmes Manager Calderdale Council; Deborah Munt – Co-Director of Ministry of Others, Three Ways East in Hull and Chair of the National Alliance for Arts, Health and Wellbeing.
